Overview
This island, with its beautiful tropical beaches and extensive coral reefs lies about 40 km by boat east of Maputo. Other attractions of the island include the maritime museum and a historic lighthouse. Excellent opportunities exist for snorkelling and diving – favourite "spots" are the reefs at Santa Maria, and off the Lighthouse. The island is a popular daytrip escape from the capital Maputo. Lucas Restaurant on the island is a Mozambican institution and is recommended for their seafood (they are also prepared to cook ones' catch). The restaurant is located in the village next to the market.

When to go
April to September the cooler, drier months. Annual rainfall ranges from 400 – 800 mm, falling mainly November to March. December is the wettest month while August is usually completely dry. Averages temperatures are around 30 C (85F) and it's very humid. August to October are windy months on the island and thus it is not recommended to visit at this time of year.

Accommodation
The Inhaca Island Lodge is highly recommended.

How to get there
By air
Charter flights can be arranged direct to Inhaca from Johannesburg, Maputo and Nelspruit.

By boat
An erratic and unpredictable government ferry crosses from Maputo to the island. A more reliable and expensive option is to arrange a speedboat transfer through a private safari company such as Nkomati Safaris in Maputo.
